Melandrisia: Beginning of a Revolution

The universe is undeniably in a state of darkness, but few realize many current events were millions of years in the making.

Long ago, when the Divine Order was in its infancy the founders were faced with a choice. If they used their power to aid mortals directly, there was a real risk past mistakes could end up being repeated.

To remedy this, the Elder Gods Gaea and Castion came up with a solution to avoid that very eventuality. Using their combined power they would created a planet inhabited by a race of Nephilim, half immortals, who could help guide the mortal races on a peaceful path with advanced technology and impressive supernatural abilities.

So, the Melaer were born...

The planet Melandrisia was a sea of golden grass, dotted with silver capped mountains and covered in deep blue oceans, a true paradise. First born to this paradise was Mael, who became High King and looked to rule with patience and wisdom. Next came Laer, whose beauty was like that of the six moons of Melandrisia, she served as High Lady, first among the future nobles of the Lane.

Over the course of just a single day the Melaer sprang into existence from nothing to span the entire planet, living in beautiful cities of white stone and wondrous technology that combined magic and science in a way the universe had never seen before.

For over three centuries the Melaer thrived as a beacon of peace in the universe, but soon they would learn that even they were not free from corruption. In their glory, arrogance had taken hold, particular in the head of Mael, their respected and some believed infallible ruler.

But one heart remained pure; Laer saw what was happening to her brother and privately confronted him in an attempt to make him recognise what was becoming of him. Mael seemed to understand and it appeared that she had gotten through to him, he even promised to make a public apology to their people the next day. Laer left, relieved he had seen sense.

But Mael was too far gone, he was convinced his sister wanted his throne. What he did next would set into motion a series of events that would not bear fruit for millennia...

Mael did indeed make a public speech the next day, broadcast to every Melaer on Melandrisia and its moon colonies. The contents of the speech shook Melandrisia to the core, it accused Laer of being the corrupt one, who had tried to wrest control of the throne from her brother and had become a servant of darkness.

Even Mael may have been shocked by what followed, rather than merely take his word as King fights broke out in the streets. Many supported their King, buy many also refused to believe Laer would do such a thing and recognised Mael for what he had become - a power hungry tyrant.

These fights soon came a full blown civil war, much of the military and the great houses of Vigil and Halan sided with the King. Many of the nobles sided with Laer, however, pledging their private armies to their High Lady and rallying to support the one they believed to be just.

The civil war blazed across Melandrisia and its six moons, leaving many cities in ruins and the landscape battle scarred. Unfortunately, the private armies of the nobles who had chosen to support Laer were no match for the disciplined war machine that was the Melandrisia military. Under the command of Generals Vigil and Halan, Mael's forces began to corner and destroy Laer's forces.

Not long after the tables turned, Laer's forces surrendered and Laer gave herself over to her brother to earn mercy for the nobles who had supported her. She attempted to get through to her brother one last time, but Mael supposedly killed her in private, ending the war and ensuring his position as undisputed ruler of Melandrisia.

As they say, history is written by the victor and Laer was painted as a devious servant of darkness who tried to claim power from her brother and forced him to kill her.

Not long after his victory, Mael ascended in pursuit of greater power. His son, Veras, took the throne as his heir. This would be a mistake that would come to to haunt Mael in the future, as Veras would one day be known by another name - Krell.
